Webdesk, TNI Kolkata 22nd April, 2016: Power 107.8 FM today had the last show on the air. Kolkatans will never here the FM radio stations anymore. In the last show, almost all the RJs and celebrities of Tollywood were present for the last show where various nostalgic moments were shared with the listeners. Music Director Drono Acharya expressed his sadness about the closure of the radio station. Power FM was one of the most sought after among the youths. However, it was very surprising to see the outcome. There were no officials of Power FM present in this occasion to tell about the reasons for its closure. Interestingly TechSci Research has come up with a report ‘India FM Radio Industry Forecast & Opportunities, 2019.’ According to the report, Indian FM radio industry is expected to witness double digit growth during 2014-19. An increasing number of FM radio listeners coupled with the growing expenditure on advertisement campaigns by real estate, pharmaceutical, education, healthcare sectors, etc., are resulting in strong growth of the FM radio industry. Senior Market research consultant, Mr. Karan Chechi said “The Indian FM radio market is projected to witness exponential growth reaching $ 656.33 million by 2019. The expansion in tier-2 & 3 cities is posing embryonic opportunities for the industry during the coming years”. However, it’s not a good indication for the music lovers of the city.
